Ophelia

Ophelia could be described as beautiful. Any one would tell you she had the nicest smile the most beautiful eyes that seemed as luminous as the nights stars. Any one could be hypnotized by her beauty even at an early age. Ophelia Gomez was her name. She came from a family who were of Caucasian descenders but moved to Mexico to escape the pressures of city life and move to a more different place. They lived in Tijuana not far from the U.S. border with San Diego. There Ophelia grew up like any other Tijuanense there. She lived a normal life although her skin color was lither. That was part of what made her stand out from other girls. Which developed into a attempted kidnap. Luckily it didn't work. When she was about to get snatched she ripped and found herself crying which made everyone around hers attention to come to her. At that time she didn't realize how multiple times she had escaped life threatening situations. It was her parents who did realize how lucky she was and brought this to her attention adding that she might have a divine gift of immortality of sort.

At age 27 Ophelia had moved from her parents and devoted most of her time to reading. Specifically focusing on books about immortality and stories of people seeking imortality. In that library she wasn't the only one interested in immortality. Francisco Velasquez of the Velasquez family was very much interested in that sort of stuff. For a very dark past clouded his mind from the future. His family a very powerful drug dealing family known as El Cartel DE La Baja controlled the area. Francisco being the only oldest son of the next generation had become the drug lord. As more and more generations of the Velasquez got murdered by police or rival Cartels, the Velasquez seeked for away to keep in power for ever. So they brought their first born son to a very wise shaman who would make a ritual to turn Francisco immortal. The shaman very precisely stated that in the first eclipse after his 30 th birth day he would have to burn his most beloved possession and throw it into a river. That very tale was what brought him to study more about immortality which brought his attention to Ophelia .

At that time Ophelia developed a sort of affection to him and when she found out exactly who he was, that same affection made no matter to her if he were a drug lord. She knew it would bring obstacles in the way but their love was stronger. And it did. One after noon when she and her husband were out to dinner, a rival cartel knew about it and decided to shoot Francisco and taking any ones life who was around him. When the shooting began Ophelia was safe in her car getting her purse. Unknowingly she escaped the shooting but her husband was injured. At another time Ophelia's chofer was away so to go shopping she rode in a car that was going to get a secret compartment for drug smuggling and while they were waiting Ophelia could go shopping. What happened next was that a commando of police came and did a raid on the repair garage (since they had a hint they worked with cartels) which resulted in a shoot out for which Ophelia was safe from inside the bullet proof car. Many occasions as this occurred and Ophelia awkwardly escaped each one.

A short while after these events Francisco Velasquez's 30th birhtday came up and the next eclipse was soon to come. Francisco had to start thinking what was his most beloved possession. Then as a bolt of lightning it struck him. Ophelia..... he thought. To him Ophelia was his most beloved and adored possession. He loved her so much at first he thought of giving up the idea. That was soon to change since the idea of eternity was greater then his love for her. He had to think of a way to bring her there and try to make her enjoy her last night.

The day came and Francisco had bought tickets for and old time style ball. They got into their best clothes and left for the ball. After the ball the chofer already knew where to go and he headed towards the Tijuana River. He had set a place for her where the eclipse would be above them at an exact point. Ophelia had noticed something different in him and saw now that the road was not to her house she was suspicious about the event but kept quit as she was convinced that her true love would not do anything to harm her. Ophelia was blind...blinded by love. When they got there he signaled for his men to tie her and suppress her strong will to be left alone. In a voice full of anxiety she asked what was wrong and she wanted to be aware of the tragical event that was soon to unfold and thinking of a way to free herself while worrying was so hard and with the force of the men against her body was too difficult and with no other hope she stopped and silenced...... to his silence which answered her question. next to a ledge that separated her from life and death she stood about two stories high from where the river flowed.Ophelia was about to die with out committing a crime as most innocent people do in times of war and crisis. Her streak of escaping death was about to end, or was it?

Ophelia was tied and ready to be burned while the eclipse was finally becoming a full eclipse. In the last.. moments of .. her life.. she could hear a Storm abroad she listened to the rushing river the thunder that struck then gazed up and saw no clouds looked back and the water was a snail current. Next came the sounds of a tornado of rushing wind till she looked strait ahead and saw a car coming towards them. She didn't know to feel glad or to fear the appearance of a black Suburban, she decided to wait and see. While everyone's head turned towards the vehicle hundreds of bullets turned towards them. A rival cartel had followed them there and was doing a drive by killing all the men there. In a hurry they paid little attention to the dead women tied up. They left.

After the sound of the engine Ophelia dared to open her eyes and reveal the war zone that appeared in front of her. Ophelia glad, excited, uncontrollably delighted with the out come of this thought to be tragic event. She would have been perfectly satisfied if it wasn't for that glare in her eyes. It was something shiny in her husband's pocket that reflected the eclipse like the river reflected as well. Then she remembered that it was her husband's silver knife. She started walking the death row to the knife and in a misstep she slipped on her husband's blood puddle and fell snapping her neck on the ledge of the bridge and falling into the river. Her body drifting away in the middle passage only being lighted by the eclipse and its reflection on the water.

A few days later her body was found and an investigation was set up which led the police up river to where the other bodies were found. This was linked to a car crash reported earlier in which a speeding black Suburban crashed and killed all aboard. The case was closed and when authorities found out who the suspect was. They reported that an attack between rival cartels had a final showdown in which Francisco Velasquez drug lord of El Cartel De La Baja had died with other cartel member casualties. No report exists of Ophelia the women in the river.
